This is of course a quote from Hippocrates. I had the advantage of living not too far from the Hippocrates institute in West Palm Beach Florida and enjoyed their free festival celebrating and sharing the health benefits of a raw food diet. Although I have tried the raw food diet, I have not been super successful with it myself. I have, however known many people who have, including the 80-10-10 diet.

From an early age, I have had the advantage of eating a vegetarian diet. I was relieved because I was never a huge fan of meat. In some cases crying at the prospect of eating meat. Going meatless was a breeze for me. I learned an important lesson about the human body at a young age when I decided to order a non vegetarian meal during a family outing. My stomach retaliated – quickly. I was soooo sick! Although I have returned temporarily to meat in my adult years. I have found a great peace in my body keeping a vegetarian and mostly vegan diet. I do occasionally indulge in a piece of cheese (it’s as addictive as morphine -can you blame me!?)

As I have embraced the role of diet in health, I have also embraced the many reasons eating an animal free diet is the only way to go. From ecological benefits to animal rights to economic equality, all benefits of eliminating animals from our diet have become increasingly important to me personally. As we endure a crisis of epic proportions, it is no doubt becoming more clear to the human population as well. The meat industry has turned to hormones and inhumane animal treatment to meet the needs of the demand for meat. The negative effects of growth hormones has been proven scientifically as childhood diabetes has skyrocketed, rates of development in children has accelerated and instances of disease continue to rise.
